American Curl kittens gene pool. 

Unregistered cats are brought into the small breeding pool to keep it healthy.  The unregistered cat will add "suvival of the fittest genes " where breeding out to a pedigree cat from another breed might add the faulty genes bred over and over into that breed.  This does not suggest that pedigree cats have a lot of defects, but it is always good to bring in new genes for a wider gene pool where the breed started with one cat.
Here is our new queen.  The older queens have been bred back into the genepool, new blood was needed.  I imported a new stud but he had my bloodlines in already, we had to act.
We are so happy with the results.  Great success.  Lovely and healthy kittens.  The American Curl lines were healthy, but now we know they will remain so.

and they are even prettier grown up.  The straight ear Americancurl cats/kittens are lovely and the best news is that these kittens had the calm friendly disposition popular in the American Curl breed.  The kitten above and photo below.

American curl breed kittens and cats are indoor cats.
This breed is highly recommended as a city cat and pet for children or grown-ups of any age.
They do not mind indoors. Actually they do not bother to go outside and if they happen to be outside I have not seen one taking any notice of birds or insects other than stepping out of the way.  They are not afraid at all as they had no hunting in mind, they are just polite.
Here is a photo of a kitten I sold few years ago. Very happy in a good home.  The kittens play non stop but they do not play rough in a way that they would knock down and break a vase or something.

I could not resist that comment as that was exactly what happened.  The kitten crept out slowly but jumped straight up in the air when he suddenly saw the top kitten.
Those were the old days where films had to be developed for a photo.  In modern times we can just keep on "clicking".  Nice!

PS.  One of Siamcadeua Galactic Ruby's kittens have already prooved herself beautiful even as a kitten, in the cat shows in Durban.  Thank you to her human mom to go that extra mile.

This is a lovely boy with a lovely temperament. He is a supreme champion so it would be logical that he has overall excellent type.  His outstanding points are a very short coat and excellent top of head.

He is not large and heavy which is very good as the siamese is not suposed to be large and heavy.

That is my boy !!  He is supreme champion, easy to handel, brave and gallant with the girls.

This stud had the longest legs I have seen on a cat.  That is something to wish for in the Siamese breed.

 Grand Champion Siamese stud imported from the Netherlands to Republic of  South Africa.

Samoa Gems  is grateful for the kittens this stud produced to improve the Siamese breed in  R S A.   He has retired some years ago but his line is going on.

He has a flat short pelt as well as a long body and legs, which is one of  the important traits in the Siamese.

This Siamese stud is a very friendly and easy to handle boy.   A real gent with the girls too.

 Cornish Rex

The Cornish Rex  cat does not have hair   -  the undercoat is waved or curly.  This feline is a svelte graceful cat walking on tiptoe like a ballerina. 

They may look fragile, but this breed is hardy very friendly, outgoing and energetic. 

It is easy to please and care for a Cornish Rex.

The curl  ear of the American Curl cat is the main attraction of this cat breed.

These are the American Curl females we are breeding at the moment.  We have been breeding with two girls most of the time, and the plan is to bring in one or two more females and red tabby and tortoishell.

We bred mainly with this line but many moggies have been tried in-between and most were bred only once.  One very good characteristic was constant in all the kittens, no matter how bad the ears turned out, the kittens were always very friendly and loving.   Most people who saw one  of the American Curls at a friend did not care what the ears look like, they just want the temperament.

American Curl breed loves to be handled and enjoys the attention and games of grown-ups or children.  I have not seen once where they loose their calm nature even with small children.

 when buying cats or kittens

Scams are doing the rounds and they are getting better at fooling buyers all the time. I saw an add for Siamese kitten in Durban. (We are near Cape Town.)   The price included flight.  They assured us the dam was imported.  That will give a good kitten for a new bloodline. Next day as I was standing in line in the bank I met another woman also ready to buy on that add.  While filling in the form she asked the assistant behind the till if it was possible to see where that person's account was registered.  The  answer was Nigeria! The deal was supposed to be made  with a person in Durban!  That was a close call -    I write it here to let you know you could find out more information  before you buy a kitten/cat or anything from anybody unknown to you.  Try to find information about the transaction as much as possible.  The cat registration body will know if that cattery exist but you must also try to find somebody living in the same town to get some information on the breeder.  It is easy to use the name and cattery details of another person.  It is very difficult to obtain information I know.  Sometimes there will be smaller losses not done in a grand scale. I sold to a "show breeder"  who paid only until she received the cat.   Lesson number 1.  No matter the quarantine date, let them pay in full first. Lesson number 2 do not send any transfer papers before the cat is paid in full  -  even if they tell you they need it urgent to enter into a show.  Showing cats can be done by dishonest people too. Anybody with tips or complaints send them in, maybe we could help others. This is what is happening here.

There are scams going round in the free classifieds of South Africa and on the web.   It is something in this line :-  Pedigree Kittens (other expensive type pets)  are given away for free/ or very cheap- owner must move/ill etc., all you need do is pay the expenses. You never receive anything.   e.g  A friend paid R1000 special need urgent home pay only transport costs and quite a few people "bought" Sphinx kittens etc.  all lost their money.  These "scammers" were not residents in R.S.A. and short of when it is murder, the police cannot do anything about it.  There will always be scams so do all you can think of to find out how real the deal is.

Jonathan's account what happened.

We had major drama with one of our little kitties earlier in the week . . . . Vervie, the choc-point!

The little shit went walkabouts on his own down the road and was very badly attacked by a dog or

possibly even two dogs. He did not come home that night and in making my frantic calls to all the

vets in the morning, thanks to the microchip, what a fucking great idea that was!!! I got a call from

the Animal Hospital in Kenilworth to say that they had our baby and that he was not in a good way!

Suffice to say, at around 10pm the night before, an angel was driving to visit a friend of hers who lives

down our street and out of the corner of her eye, she saw a little white cat lying in the gutter,  motionless on the side of the road. She thought he was dead. She stopped her car, rushed out

and she could not believe, with all the blood lost that he was still alive! She rushed him all the way to Kenilworth where they gave him emergency treatment for severe bite wounds to his hind quarters and around his genitals. He had also been bitten in the face and had two badly fractured teeth and a bruised eye.

Poor Johan! I fell in love with the man all over again seeing the pain he went through to see his little baby in such a terrible state!

The little kitty was so badly bitten at the back that he could not stand up and his back legs just gave way when he tried to. We thought that he had a broken pelvis!
Thanks to our vet’s TLC and X-rays, all the little bones are intact and all she could find was just a lot of gas around the joints and clearly massive bruising from the trauma!

Johan slept on the bathroom floor with the kitty for three nights.

Kitty is well on the mend now albeit that the wounds are still saturating and praise the Lord,

he is walking again ! 
Small miracles!

To all kids who do not like having neck and ears cleaned.

Be happy your mother does not lick it with a tongue the size of your face. (Not to mention her teeth.)
The friendship between the two cats, cheetah and siamese are as strong as ever.

Attention you beautiful chocolate eaters out there take it from the rat's mouth.

What happens if you eat stacks of chocolate ?!  gimme ! Beautiful shiny hair!  Look at me, I am the living proof. WARNING! chocolate is poisonous to cats as well as dogs.  This is a serious warning. Let me spell it out:  chocolate is poisonous to cats!  and dogs. Do not be fooled by the fact that if a rat so much smaller than a cat can eat chocolate it must be safe for the cat. Rats are very much stronger in their make-up than most mammals.  As rumour has it -  they are going to take over after we die from pollution. Which is not their making but our own.

Rats are ideal pets for children.
They love being handled and it is easy for children to care for them and to keep them clean.

Here I must add that I recommend keeping female rats for pets, a male rat is smelly and he spends his time marking everywhere he goes to make sure that any female who might pass will smell him.

Pardon this remark all male rats, but that is a fact.
Life will be somewhat different for the rat, depending whether a girl or a boy adopted her.

The magic of a sunbeam.

It can melt kittens. They will flop down while playing inside or outside. These are American Curl kittens but the reaction is the same for all -  from feral to pedigree kittens.
Even a brick turns into a comfortable pillow.

Career cat - key cutter and shoe repair. 

By removing all kinds of vermin the cats have been working for man since they joined our society some 4000 +years ago. The cats performed their duties from farms to the post office wherever they were needed.
Now in modern times cats has many other duties as well.
Mostly as a companion and relieving stress in our lives, but there are other career cats too. They may hunt to feed
themselves but most of the time their services pay for their food. There is such a career cat in Malmesbury, RSA. Working in the shop every day without fail.

Always friendly, she is respected as one of the personnel.

Meet the very special career cat. Her formal name is O.P.
She will be on the counter ready to welcome clients, every day.
She can come and go as she please, but she is at her post on the counter.
